1901 Map of Dallas Texas

In order to make this map large enough to read and, at the same time, keep download time reasonable, it has been divided into four sections: Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast. Just click on the quadrant you wish to view. Each one is approximately 500 KB in size. Horizontally, each should fit your screen almost perfectly if you have your resolution set to 800 x 600 pixels.

When this map was published in 1901:

  • White Rock Lake wouldn't exist for another ten years.
  • Greenwood Cemetery (see NW quadrant) was called Trinity Cemetery.
  • Freedman's Cemetery was identified as the "Colored Cemetery" (see NW quadrant).
  • The Old Pioneer Cemetery, near present-day Convention Center, was called the Masonic Cemetery (see SW quadrant).
  • City Park was much larger and the Confederate Monument, now by the Convention Center, was located there.
  • The Trinity River was much closer to downtown than it is now and the "Triple Underpass" didn't exist.
  • The Old Red courthouse was in exactly the same spot, however.
  • Union Station didn't exist. Each railroad had its own terminal. The Texas and Pacific station wasjust south of Gaston Avenue (see NE quadrant). The Houston and Texas Central station was located just a few blocks south, along the line of present-day Central Expressway (see NE quadrant).

This site looks best when viewed on a monitor with a resolution of 800x600 pixels and at least 256 colors.
